What We Do

Overhead Electrical Service, Done Properly

The overhead service is the part of your electrical system between the utility's line and your meter: the mast through the roof, the weatherhead, the service cable and the meter pan. We repair and replace all of it, and we upgrade services from 100 to 200 amps when a house needs more power. On the East End the usual causes are a limb in a storm and thirty years of salt air on a meter pan.

How It Works

The utility owns the drop to your house; the electrician owns everything from the weatherhead in. For a repair or upgrade we schedule the disconnect and reconnect with PSEG, do the work in that window, and have the municipal inspection done so the utility can re-energize. We handle the calls and the paperwork.

When you need this

  • A tree limb or storm pulled the service cable loose or bent the mast.
  • PSEG Long Island tagged your service or meter pan as needing repair before they will reconnect.
  • Rusted meter pan, cracked weatherhead, frayed cable insulation.
  • Adding an EV charger, a heat pump or an addition and the existing 100-amp service is not enough.
  • New construction or a barn, shop or outbuilding that needs its own service.

Why East West Express Electric

Overhead and mast work is at height and next to live equipment; it is a job for electricians who do it regularly, with insurance behind them. We quote the whole job in writing, including permit, inspection and the utility coordination, and a crew of three means the mast, the meter pan and the panel side happen at the same time.

Common Questions

Who owns what on the service?

PSEG Long Island owns the drop to the house; everything from the weatherhead in is yours, and ours to repair. We coordinate the disconnect and reconnect with the utility.

How long is the power off for a service upgrade?

Most of a day. We schedule PSEG for the morning, do the work and the inspection, and have you back on the same day in most cases.

A limb took the wire down. Who do I call first?

PSEG Long Island (1-800-490-0075), so they can make the line safe. Then us; we repair the mast and meter pan and get the inspection done so PSEG can reconnect.
